A straightforward tyre centre on Chelston Business Park, built around one idea: good tyres fitted properly, at a price that does not make you wince.
Our story
The Tyre Warehouse works out of Unit A1 Monument View on Chelston Business Park, and the name is fairly literal. Walk in and you will find racks of tyres stacked floor to ceiling, each one labelled with its size, its brand and the tread left on it. There is no showroom, no coffee machine and no sales patter. There is a fitting bay, a balancer and a lot of stock.
That is deliberate. Most people arriving at a tyre shop have not been looking forward to it. Something has gone flat, an MOT advisory has come back, or the edge has worn off a tyre and it needs replacing before it becomes a problem. What they want is a quick, honest answer and a fair price, and that is what the setup here is built to deliver.
We supply and fit both new tyres and part-worn tyres, and we are happy to say which one we would go for if it were our own car. Sometimes that is a brand new set. Often, particularly on an older vehicle or a second car, it is a good part-worn pair with years of life left in it.
How we work
Four things we hold to on every job, whether you are buying one part-worn tyre or a full set of new ones for a works van.
Before a part-worn tyre goes on our racks it is inflated and pressure tested, and the casing is checked over for damage. Anything that does not pass does not get sold. It is the single most important thing we do, and it is why buying part-worn here is a sensible saving rather than a risk.
Every tyre is labelled with its size and how much tread is left, typically somewhere around 5mm to 8mm on our part-worn stock. You are not guessing, and you are not taking our word for it either. The information is written on the tyre in front of you.
Tyres work best in matched pairs across an axle. Where the stock allows it we will always put you on a matching pair or a full matching set rather than four odd tyres, because it makes a real difference to how the car handles and how evenly the rubber wears.
If we have not got your size, or if the tyre you have brought in is past saving, we will say so rather than find you something that almost fits. A wasted five minutes is better than the wrong tyre on your car.
Who we fit for
A tyre centre is only useful if it can take whatever turns up on the forecourt, so we stock and fit across the board. Family hatchbacks and estates, work vans doing serious mileage, 4x4s and SUVs that need something with a bit more bite, and commercial vehicles where downtime costs money.
Alongside the tyres themselves we also handle wheel alignment and supply alloy wheels, which covers most of what goes wrong at that corner of a vehicle.
Before you set off
We are a busy workshop, and there are stretches of the week where the bay is full from opening. If you can give us a ring before you come down, we can check your size is on the rack, put it to one side and give you a time that works. That usually turns a long wait into a short one.
It matters even more in autumn and winter, when tyre work picks up sharply across Wellington and the wetter weather starts finding every worn tyre in the county.
